HIV/AIDS Intervention

Most of our work has been in AIDS/HIV education. Since 2006, volunteers with RAIN-UGANDA have educated and encouraged community members  to seek Voluntary Counseling and Testing for HIV (VCT). RAIN workers lead focus groups with men, women, and youth on issues of sex and sexuality as one way to influence attitudes and behaviors to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS. We then provide free HIV testing. If a client is found to be positive, we work to connect them to follow-up services which are available in Mbale.

RAIN-UGANDA has conducted over 3,000 HIV tests on men, women and children in rural areas of Uganda.

Since 2009, RAIN-UGANDA, with the assistance of a annual global partnership grant from AIDS Foundation of Chicago, provided HIV education and testing and cervical and breast cancer screening for local village women. Last year, with just $5000, we transported, educated, screened, and counseled over 660 women,

which included providing available care for those with abnormal screenings. Unfortunately, AFC is no longer providing global partnership grants.
