HIV Testing & Counselling

Most of our work has been in AIDS/HIV education. Since 2006, volunteers with RAIN-UGANDA have educated and encouraged community members  to seek Voluntary Counseling and Testing for HIV (VCT). RAIN workers lead focus groups with men, women, and youth on issues of sex and sexuality as one way to influence attitudes and behaviors to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS. We then provide mobile testing days in local villages where there is free HIV testing for men, women and children. We also provide Albendazol, a medication to eliminate worms, to clients and their families.

If a client is found to be positive, we work to connect them to follow-up services which are locally available in Mbale.  When medicated is needed, it should be available free from local clinics as well as specialized clinics in Mbale.

RAIN-UGANDA has conducted over 5,000 HIV tests on men, women and children in rural areas of Uganda
